Muslims around the world celebrate Ramadan, the holiest month in the Islamic Calendar. Eating, drinking, smoking and sexual activity is prohibited from dawn until sunset, when the fast is broken with the evening meal called Iftar. In many communities, large dinner gatherings are held each evening to break the fast, which is meant to teach humility and sacrifice, self-restraint and be used as a channel of prayer for guidance in the future.
This holy month brings a magic atmosphere here in Amman, the capital City of Jordan. Lights, colors and a peaceful atmosphere blend with time as it passes. People gather to pray, eat and enjoy the company of family and friends. Everyday life is mostly lived at night until suhoor, the meal consumed early in the morning before the fasting begins once again.
In Jordan, Ramadan 2015 started on 18th June and ended on 18th July.
