Mariam is a Syrian woman, she is thirty years old and she comes from Idlib, in North West Syria. She is married to Mohammed. During the height of the violence raging in their cities they have tried to resist as much as possible, delaying the escape many times, until one day their five-year-old girl died for a huge shock during an aerial bombardment in their neighbourhood. Then Mariam and Mohammad have decided to take refuge in Jordan. They left at night with their children Ahmad,, Fares, Ghofran and Hothaifa.
Their first daughter, Waed, 17, decided to remain in Syria with her young husband. In April 2015 Mariam gave birth to Hamza in the ICRC Clinic, at the Azraq camp.. He is her tenth child. Mariam, like many other refugee women, is slowly putting together the pieces of a past life and the new one that is living in the refugee camp of Azraq.
